Artist Biography
Holly Bechiri graduated from Calvin University in 1998 with a BFA in studio art. She also studied philosophy with intensity. During a hiatus from painting, Holly enjoyed work as an editor, journalist, and project manager for culturedGR, an arts publication that covered the visual arts in the Grand Rapids area.
After returning to painting, and after a recent adjunct professorship at Calvin University where she taught art theory and creativity, Holly was inspired to make a move to Spain where she’s opening a retreat center for artists and writers.
Holly’s current work is non-objective or abstract mixed media paintings and drawings that explore color, line, and energy. Their gestural quality embraces bold marks and colors and are in constant exploration between the balances of minimalist simplicity and layers of energetic marks.
