Rebecca Rodriguez

Printmaking

Artist Biography

Rebecca has been living and working as an artist and printmaker in Grand Rapids for over twenty years. She earned a BFA in Printmaking from Grand Valley University and enjoyed a residency at the Instituto Lorenzo de Medici, in Florence Italy. She is inspired and influenced by the woodcuts of German Expressionism, the colors of Rothko, and artworks that reference Natural History.

“Printmaking is a way for me to create imagery of more complex ideas and feelings, tying them to the botanical, medicinal and to other visual imagery that is based on the emotional and physical workings of the body. I love being outside, tending to my plants, learning what scientific benefits each plant provides, looking both closely and from a distance. I also observe and create imagery of the insects that lie among the plants.”

Rebecca lives in midtown Grand Rapids with her husband, two children, a dog, guinea pigs, birds, and a tortoise.
